The Ministry of Interior announced that the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security has arrested a 32-year-old man for approaching and luring a number of children through a social media platform using deceptive means, including falsely promising gifts and sums of money.
It explained that, upon receipt of a case through the e-Reporting service on the MyGov application, search and investigation procedures were immediately initiated, along with the collection of information and evidence, resulting in the identification and arrest of the suspect. Investigations indicated that he had used unethical methods, including sending content and images of other victims who had previously been lured, with the aim of influencing and exploiting them for unlawful motives. Legal proceedings have been taken, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
In this context, the Unit stressed the importance of strengthening parental supervision and raising children’s awareness of the dangers of interacting with strangers online, particularly those who use inducement and deception. It called on parents to monitor their children’s use of social media, educate them not to share photos or personal information with any unknown party, and report any suspicious contact or attempted luring immediately.
