Northern Governor Ali bin Al Sheikh Abdul Hussein Al Asfoor praised the keynote speech, which was delivered by the Minister of Interior General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
Addressing heads and officials in charge of community centres (maatams) and members of the Husseinyah processions marking the Ashoora season, the minister stressed the importance of respecting the spiritual and specific features of the event.
The minister had also stressed the importance of harnessing all efforts to deal with security and social phenomena.
Al Asfoor stressed the health, cultural and sports programmes and events lined up by the Northern Governorate round the year, to raise community awareness and engage the youth in cooperation with civil society institutions.
He made the statement as he toured maatams to inspect ongoing preparations to commemorate Ashoora rituals, in the presence of representatives of the Jaffari Endowments and the police directorate.
He urged heads of maatams and processions to heed the organisation aspects and undertake all precautionary measures in cooperation with paramedics.
