MOI Statement: Some arrested rioters benefited from the royal pardon, and others are minors

MOI

The Interior Ministry announced that the police forces took the required legal procedures and arrested some individuals involved in recent illegal rallies.

The announcement was made to inform the public of the latest security developments and promote community partnership. It revealed that some of the arrestees had benefited from the royal pardon that covered convicts in several criminal cases. They recommitted their crimes and didn’t benefit from the significant opportunity to be good community members. Meanwhile, other arrestees are minors.

As a law enforcement authority and within the legal steps,  the Interior Ministry will hand them over those minors to their parents, per article 55 of the Restorative Justice Law for Children and their Protection from Maltreatment, which states: “a sanction of imprisonment and a fine of not less than one hundred dinars or one of these two sanctions shall be imposed on whoever is required by law or agreement to take care of a child, and exposes the child to one of the cases of maltreatment and such exposure would cause severe physical or psychological harm to the child.” The article holds parents full responsibility for caring for their children per the law's requirement.

The Interior Ministry affirmed that dealing with riots is carried out per the law because they are against civil peace and social cohesion. It highlighted that the protection of Bahrain’s stability is a national duty; therefore, all should protect security and national accomplishments. May God protect Bahrain from all harm.
