The joint Bahrain-Austria Security Committee held its first meeting chaired by the Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan and Federal Police and Director of Criminal Intelligence Service, General Mag Andreas Holzer.
The Chief welcomed the delegation and hailed the growing ties between the two countries. He highlighted the meeting's significance for the people of both states. He highlighted that the joint meeting was held based on the “Declaration in Intent” signed by the two Interior Ministry during His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa's visit to Austria in January 2024 to promote security cooperation in law enforcement and criminal justice.
The Chief appreciated the support of HE the Interior Minister to all public security sectors to promote Bahrain's status in regional and international security cooperation by activating related memorandums of understanding and agreements. He said this meeting comes in light of the security and regional situations and the accelerating challenges that require intensifying efforts to continue the joint approach to protect stability and enhance joint security work.
The meeting discussed topics on the agenda that aim to promote security cooperation and coordination. Both sides agreed to form a work team that meets regularly to discuss cooperation in fighting organised trafficking in persons and children's sexual exploitation crimes. They reviewed the use of artificial intelligence and efforts to combat illicit drugs, money laundering, terrorism financing, corruption and economic and cyber crimes.
The meeting reviewed Bahrain’s alternative sentencing and open prisons experience and the Kingdom’s efforts to tackle human trafficking.
