The CE of the Financial Intelligence National Centre, Shaikha May bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairwoman of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Committee, expressed her profound thanks and appreciation to His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Committee for Combating Extremism, Terrorism, its Financing and Money Laundering, for approving and launching the National Strategy for Combating Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing and the Proliferation of Weapons. She noted that the strategy represents a highly significant step towards strengthening the Kingdom of Bahrain’s financial and economic security framework.
She stated that the launch of the strategy reflects HE the Interior Ministry’s keenness to entrench comprehensive security, particularly economic security. She added that it forms part of the continued development of legislative and executive frameworks in line with international best practices and standards.
She praised the efforts of the national entities that contributed to preparing the strategy, affirming that institutional cooperation and effective coordination among partners produced an integrated and comprehensive document grounded in a risk assessment, aimed at achieving the highest levels of efficiency in combating financial crimes.
She noted that the national strategy constitutes a clear roadmap to enhance national capabilities in detecting and preventing money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation, and in updating supervisory systems and procedures. This, she said, will bolster the Kingdom’s international standing and support its commitments to relevant United Nations conventions and instruments.
She affirmed that adopting the strategy marks a qualitative leap for the next phase of national efforts in this field, noting that working in a spirit of partnership and complementarity will achieve the desired strategic objectives and safeguard national gains.
