In cooperation between Interior & Foreign Ministries, NPRA launches overseas passport replacement service via eGovernment Portal

MOI

The Ministry of Interior announced that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a new electronic service has been launched, enabling Bahraini citizens residing abroad to replace their passports through Bahrain’s embassies and consulates via the National eGovernment Portal, Bahrain.bh, in a step that supports digital transformation.

Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, said the service allows citizens to submit their applications electronically and receive their new passports, while the old ones are cancelled, at any of Bahrain’s embassies or consulates abroad, without the need to send the old passport back for cancellation. This streamlines procedures and saves time, effort and cost. He noted that the service is exclusively for citizens abroad, with all transactions processed directly through diplomatic missions, without the need to visit service centres inside the Kingdom.

He added that this step is part of the ministry’s efforts to enhance digital services and improve efficiency and flexibility in completing transactions, in line with citizens’ expectations and to enhance service quality. He noted that the service significantly speeds up passport issuance, with processing taking no more than seven working days. He also noted that the agreement with DHL Express has provided secure, reliable delivery of passports and documents to citizens worldwide, facilitating renewal or replacement procedures and significantly reducing processing time.
