The Ministry of Interior affirmed that the Iranian aggression targeting the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) facility, located within a populated area, on 5 April 2026, constitutes a flagrant attack on lives, property, infrastructure, and industrial and oil facilities. It added that such acts amount to war crimes, criminalised under international humanitarian law and rejected by international conventions and norms.
The Ministry noted that, were it not for God and the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the esteemed government as part of the ongoing efforts and procedures aimed at strengthening civil protection and ensuring the safety of citizens and residents, the attack could have resulted in heavy losses of life and property. It explained that the damage sustained by the facility was brought under immediate control and that work would resume in the second phase of technical repair, in accordance with the security and safety requirements for such cases.
In this context, the Ministry of Interior stressed the importance of reviewing the instructions and public safety procedures on the National Civil Protection Platform at https://www.ncpp.gov.bh/, particularly those related to ammonia gas leaks. It underlined that security awareness and adherence to official guidance and instructions are essential elements of the civil protection system and for safeguarding lives and public safety for all citizens and residents.
